General Comment
I once read a rock critic's review saying that this song ends with the banality of the everyday world being invaded and overthrown by the pastoral realm - pure chaotic vibrant life ( the farm animals) overunning the mundane order of merely human existence...but it goes up a notch higher with the cavalry charging in at the end (like a celestial army).
Anyway this song rocks and I love the guitar solo !

General Comment
It was a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes which gave John the title and chorus of Good Morning Good Morning. The black and white commercial featured nothing more than corn flakes being tipped into a bowl. The four line jingle went... "Good morning, good morning, The best to you each morning, Sunshine breakfast, Kellogg's Corn Flaes, crisp and full of fun."

General Comment
You could make a great video of this, with vignettes of the scenes. For example, a husband dying in a hospital bed and the doctor calling in his wife to break the news. A bored husband chasing skirts when he should really be going home, etc. Ringo's drum/cymbal crashes would be the switch from scene to scene.

General Comment
I think it's a commentary on how mundane English life was in the 1960s. "Meet the Wife" refers to a BBC program of the time.
Also probably a reflection of John's dissatisfaction with his own life at the time. I think the contrast between day and night was big for him because according to biographies at this time John would do little all day and, record with the Beatles during the evening and then go out on the town.

yes this song seems to look out at the straight world world with a sneering sarcastic eye. John is detached, leading a reclusive life, just catching glimpses of the world through his television set (kellogs ad, meet the wife). These glimpses set his original mind onto surreal trains of thought. However, this could also be about John himself. Perhaps his life in the Beatles is not so far away from the 9-5 office workers life after all. This song shows John to slowly begin to get tired of The Beatles and tired of Mccartneys work ethic about recording. John wants to lead an undiciplined artistic life. He always was lazy.

'good morning' is just a reminder
if your think of it as good 'mourning' instead, when people wake up feeling slow groggy, we are in that kind of mental state.
"nothing to do to save his life"
and as the day builds, we become more aware of surrounding occurences

I agree that the lyrics paint a picture of the mundaneness of a 9-5 routine, living life through the telly, etc. but the music is so full of energy- Ringo's drumming (as previously noted!!!!!), the horns, guitars, bass, animal noises - the song just rocks. I can't help but feel jubilation by the end of the song. I sense that despite the mundaneness, the speaker is finding joy....
I love it when the lyrics contrasts with the melody, beat, etc of the song creating a dichotomy make you reinterpret the lyrics.MamboManon April 13, 2012Link

fwilhelm: while John might hope that a girl he liked went to the the show, I suspect the meaning is "I'm taking a girl to a show, I hope she's a goer". See Monty Python's Nudge Nudge skit for the 1960s meaning of "goes".

General Comment
Personally, i think the cornflakes claims are bogus. I think this song is about a widow recovering from the death of her husband. Especially with the first 4 bars being gloomy an dark, and bars 13-14 is the near-end of her recovery. The rest of the song is in the perspective of her new husband.
